What is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is the first book most children use to learn to read the Quran. It teaches the Arabic letters, their sounds and the reading marks in a carefully ordered sequence, so each lesson builds on the one before it. It is written for the Indo-Pak script used in South Asia, and it is used by families and mosques in the UK, Canada, the Gulf and around the world.

Joined lettersHow letters change shape when they are joined at the start, middle and end of a word.
Harakat (short vowels)Fatha, kasra and dammah: the short vowel marks that tell you which sound to read.
TanweenThe double vowel marks that add a noon sound at the end of a word.
Long vowelsLetters that stretch a vowel, read for a longer count.
Sukoon and shaddahThe mark for a letter with no vowel, and the mark for a doubled letter.
Practice with Quranic wordsWords and short phrases from the Quran that bring all the earlier lessons together.

A PDF helps practice. A teacher makes the sounds correct.

Arabic letters that look easy on paper are often pronounced wrongly without someone listening. In a live one-to-one online Noorani Qaida class a teacher hears every letter and corrects it straight away. After the Qaida, learners move on to Tajweed and Quran reading, and you can also get our 16 line Tajweed Quran PDF. For parents, see how to teach kids Quran at home.
