Learn morePrivate live Quran lessons for children and adults in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and across Australia, scheduled in your state's time zone.
Australia has three main time zones, and daylight saving applies in some states but not others. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia move their clocks forward in early October and back in early April. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia stay on standard time all year. The gap between cities therefore changes twice a year: Perth is two hours behind Sydney in winter and three hours behind during daylight saving. Your lesson stays at the same local time wherever you live.
| City | Time zone | Daylight saving? |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | AEST (UTC+10) / AEDT (UTC+11) | Yes, October to April |
| Brisbane | AEST (UTC+10) | No |
| Adelaide | ACST (UTC+9:30) / ACDT (UTC+10:30) | Yes, October to April |
| Darwin | ACST (UTC+9:30) | No |
| Perth | AWST (UTC+8) | No |
Families most often choose the hours after school, roughly 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm on weekdays, or a weekend morning. Slots are confirmed when you book your free trial. In winter the sun sets around 5 pm in the south-eastern states, so an after-school lesson can run into Maghrib; in summer the evenings are long and there is more room.
The school year has four terms, from late January to December, with short breaks between terms. Term dates differ from state to state, so tell us yours. The long summer holidays over December and January suit a focused project, and some students use them to memorise Juz Amma or selected surahs. Students sitting final-year exams in Term 4 can ask us to lighten the load for a few weeks.
Children often begin with Noorani Qaida or our kids' programme. Parents frequently take Tajweed or Quran with translation later in the evening, once the household has settled. Each family member can have a separate teacher and time.
Parents: our online Quran classes for kids in Australia page covers term-time timetables, school-holiday ideas and safety questions. See also a daily Hifz routine for Australian school terms and the free Noorani Qaida lessons.
